God, where even to start?

How about with some history? Here are the facts (as far as I know or can find them):

Before 1828, abortion was permissible in the U.S. up until the movements of the fetus could be felt. By 1900, it was illegal across the country. We have the second-wave feminists of the 1960s to thank for the legalization of abortion under extreme circumstances such as rape, incest, or danger to the mother’s life, and by 1970, abortion was not only legal but widely available in New York, California, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii. Everywhere else, however, it remained illegal except in the situations cited above. (more…)

Women & the Martial Arts: Getting Hit

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

“[G]etting hit is just as vital as [learning to hit]. It is something most women have some fear of, but once they gain experience in the controlled atmosphere of a good karate school, it isn’t difficult to overcome that fear. Schools that allow no contact are severely limiting the growth of their students. It isn’t uncommon for panic or fear to freeze a woman when she is hit for the first time. Having this happen in the controlled atmosphere of the studio is a learning experience. On the street, it can be fatal.” ~ Gavin DeBecker, The Gift of Fear: Survival Skills that Protect Us From Violence. (more…)

Food Friday: Quesadillas

Friday, April 6th, 2007

Oh man. So good.

Quesadillas definitely ranks among my favorite foods.

What’s the best part of quesadillas? Definitely the spiciness. Cause they’ve gotta have spiciness. Otherwise you’re just eating a tortilla sandwich. Where the spiciness actually derives from is less important. Sometimes, it’s a yummy sauce. Or spicy cheese. Or (my favorite), lovely lovely jalepenos. Ohhhhh man…so good.

And you know the best part of quesadillas? You can pretty much make your own, and all you need is one pan. Plus, quesadillas go with everything. I know this because I’ve tried having quesadillas with pretty much everything imaginable. You can make traditional, Mexican-style quesadillas with chicken and cheese and cilantro and salsa, or you can make them all super-healthy with spinach and bean sprouts and feta cheese, or you can go all pomo throw some mango and hollandaise in there. Delicious, versatile, spicy goodness in your own kitchen — does it get any better than that?

Yeah; I didn’t think so.

OHHHHHH man.....so good....
